Purana Qila

Just south-east of the India Gate and on the north of Humayun's tomb and Nizamuddin train station, the Purana Quila - Old Fort is situated. It is supposed site of Indraprastha, the original Delhi. One of the Afghan ruler named 'Sher Shah', who completed this old fort during his reign from year 1538 to year 1545 and just before Humayun regained control on the Indian nation.

This fort walls are massive and with three biger gateways. There is the Qila-i-Kuhran Mosque, a Mosque of Sher Shah just behind that fort. There are other places worth visiting like Sher Mandal, which is small octagonal red sandstone tower, also a small archaeological museum as well as sound and light show each evening worth rupees 25.

Purana Qila Delhi

One of the historical thing is the massive double storeyed 'Bara Darwaza', a great gate, which is main entrance to this fort. The south gate of this fort is known as 'Humayun Darwaza' and the north side gate is known as 'Talaqi Darwaza'.
