Sonamarg hills are at a height of about 2740 meters above sea level. This hill station is one of the most popular hill stations in Jammu and Kashmir. This is also well-known as the 'Golden Meadow'. Sonamarg hills are like feast for eyes. This hill station offers some of the mind blowing views of the lush green slopes and snow-covered huge mountains in the backdrop. The scenic natural beauty of the place is spectacular and can make a person go crazy.

Tourists who are adventurer lovers will have a great time here trekking, mountain climbing, river rafting and paragliding in the huge mountains of the Sonamarg hill. There are many trained people who guide the tourist for a safe ride. Some of the famous bases for trekkers are Vishansar, Gadsar and Gangabal.

Shopping can also be of one the main attractions of this place as the handicraft items of this place are worth buying. Other such items that you can carry back with you are carpets, shawls, crewel furnishings, and paper Mache.

Dry fruits such as saffron, almonds, honey and walnuts of Sonamarg hills are world famous as they are exported to other parts of the country.

In and around Sonamarg hills:

Gadsar Lake: This lake is on the highest point of Kashmir on an altitude of about 5000 meters above sea level. This lake is situated in the lap of the great Himalayas. This is the most famous lake in Sonamarg hills.

Zoji-La Pass: It is situated on an attitude of about 3450 meters above sea level and is at a distance of 20 kilometers away from Sonamarg hills. It is considered as the “gate way to ladakh”

Baltal: It is situated at a distance of about just 15 kilometers from Sonamarg hills. It is located on the base of Zoji-la pass. There is a holy cave of amaranth which is a place of worship for lord Shiva.

Nichnai pass: It is situated at a height of about 4139 meters above sea level. This pass raises high above Shokhadri and Glacier peaks. This is the main base for trekkers. People can have charming view of the Vishansar Lake.

    Nearest airport is in the Badgam district that connects capital city and all the other main cities of India. Srinagar airport is also close to Sonamarg hills. At a distance of about 81 kilometers from Sonamarg hills.

  • Railways:

    Nearest railway station is the Guwahati station which is about 355 kilometers away from Sonamarg hills. The rail that operates from here is the north frontier railway.

  • Road ways:

    There are state transport buses and luxury buses available from Sonamarg to all the major cities of India.
