History of Haji Ali Dargah
Haji Ali Dargah was built by a Muslim saint and a very rich Merchant named Haji Ali. This Dargah was built in the year 1431. He had given up all his wealth to poor before leaving for Mecca. The main structure of the Dargah is set on a high rising rock and was given its current shape in the 19th century. Haji Ali Dargah contains the tomb of a very famous Muslim saint and along with the tomb there is mosque also located there.
Legend say that the saint Haji Ali died on his way to Mecca and miraculously his dead body floated back to the sea shore of the Mahim bay in Arabian Sea. The devotees to honour the great Muslim saint Pir Baba Haji Ali built a mosque in the middle of the sea with a narrow path that leads to the Dargah. The structure of the Dargah has a white color dome and minarets evocative with the Mughal architecture of their period. This is a prominent pilgrimage place for the Muslims. The white color of the Dargah is so amazing that it attracts thousands of pilgrims all over the world. The number of visitors visiting Haji Ali Dargah every day is about 10 to 15 thousand and the number of the visitors increases beyond 20 - 30 thousand on Sundays and Friday. There are lakhs of devotees who visit on the next day of Ramadan Eid and Bakri Eid. During this period the path way that leads to the Dargah is so packed that it looks as if it is a sea of humanity.

The very important and main event of Haji Ali Dargah is the death anniversary of the Saint Haji Ali that is on the 16th of Rabi-ul Aakhir or on the 17th shab according to the Islamic calendar. The trusts which look after this Dargah manage to arrange and perform all the traditions as per the Islamic way. They prepare niyaaz that is the food or the sweet that is to be distributed among the visitors and to the poor.
