Pazhayangadi Mosque is considered as one of the oldest and most famous mosques in Kerala. This mosque is about 500 years old. This is situated in the northern part of Kerala. This is also well known as the Kondotty mosque. Pazhayangadi Mosque is regarded as one of the prominent worshipping place for the Muslims. This mosque is at a distance of about 18 kilometers away from Manjeri which comes on the way to Malappuram. This mosque is the legacy of the Muhammad Shah, the most famous Muslim holy man and popularly known as the Kondotty Thangal.

The mosque is built in the Mughal style which is dedicated to Muhammad Shah. The Mughal architecture of the mosque has beautiful domes in white color that attracts many tourists. Pazhayangadi Mosque is in the middle of the huge coconut palms. There are thousands of Muslim people who come here to offer prayers.

Kerala is having a very strong Muslims community and Kerala is ranked second in the terms of Muslim population. The majority of Muslim community is found in the northern part of Kerala. It is believed that the Muslims in Kerala are those who have come from Arab countries and have settled here forever. They settled here as Kerala was the main centre of trade for the Arabs during the ancient time.

This is the first mosque that was introduced in India for the Muslims to worship. Pazhayangadi Mosque is located just next to the Nilgiri hills. The main festival that is celebrated here is the 'Valia Nercha' which is one of the most famous festivals of this mosque. This festival is celebrated in the month of February- March every year with great fervor. This festival continues for about 3 days and is very important festival as it draws thousands of devotees every year. During this festival, local vendors put many stalls selling scented sticks, eatables, entertainment stalls and many such other stalls. There are special prayers offered to the Saint Muhammad Shah and there is also food for the poor.
