Paonta sahib is a very important religious place for the Sikhs. Paonta sahib Gurdwara is built on the bank of the river Yamuna, this river separates the two states of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand.

It is believed that the tenth guru of the Sikhs Guru Gobind Singh had stayed here for about five years. He had written many Sikh religious books here and finally went to Anandpur Sahib to establish the Khalsa Panth. This place has gained this name after guru lost one of his ornaments that he used to wear in his foot, known as Paonta. Its original name was Paontika, this is derived from two words. In hindi "Paon" means feet and "tika" means stable. Paonta sahib is the second in the triangle. This city has many such memories of the guru Gobind Singh. From Paonta to Renuka is considered as one arm of the triangle. This is the bustling township and there are many industries here. This is considered as one of the popular places for the Sikhs. This place retains tangible memories of the Guru in the form of royal gurdwaras and weapons.

There are thousands of Sikhs who visit this place every year. There are large numbers of devotees visiting this Gurdwara to get the blessing of the guru Gobind Singh. This Gurdwara is actually surrounded by huge lush green forest, there are Sal trees. This Gurdwara gives the devotees a panoramic view of the entire region. Many Sikhs visits this place to witness the teachings of the Guru. Guru was invited by the Rajput king to help him to fight the war with the Mughal. This is a place which Sikhs visits frequently. It is also a sacred venue where the holy scripture Guru Granth Sahib was written. Paonta sahib Gurdwara is built on the Yamuna River where Guru used to held court and had written a major portion of the "Dassam Granth". Guru had also built a Paonta fort that covered an area of about hundred acres. He left this place after the battle of bhangani that was fought with Raja Fateh shah. Guru Gobind Singh defeated the ruler's army after 30 days.

Ideal time to visit this place is from October to March as during this time the climate is very pleasant here.
