History:

This was designated as a wildlife sanctuary in the year 1992. Many efforts were taken by the Orissa State Government with the aim of preserving, conserving and increasing the wildlife population. Several species of trees have been planted. Many of the plans have been fruitful.

Location:

This wildlife sanctuary is located on the Bhawanipatna-Thuamula-Rampur road. It is situated at a distance of 12 km from Bhawanipatna in Kalahandi District. Bhawanipatna is the district headquarters of Kalahandi.

The city of Karlapat has always been home to a plethora of wild animals. The amiable presence of the different animals and birds on this idyllic setting draws more tourists from different parts of the state.

Main attractions:

Dense deciduous forests and lush greenery are the main vegetation of the Karlapat wildlife sanctuary. How to reach the park?

The nearest railhead is Kesinga Railway Station. You can take regular buses from Bhubaneswar to go to Bhawanipatna. Bhubaneswar is well connected to all the major cities in the country.

The nearest airport to Bhawanipatna is in Raipur that is 250 km away. You can reach Bhawanipatna from Raipur via Nuapada or Dharamgarh.
