Kaziranga national park, one of the well known national parks in India is a world heritage site. Located in Assam lying partly in Golagahat district and partly in Nagaon District, this national park forms one of the chief tourist attractions not only in the state but also in the entire north-eastern part of the country.
Established in 1904 this park was declared as a national park in 1974. Covering an area of approx. 430 sq km, the picturesque setting of this oldest park in Assam is really unique. Nestled between the sides of Brahmaputra River and Anglong hills, the unspoilt beauty of this park has beckoned the nature-lovers since ages.
This park is the abode of many one-horned rhinoceroses, tigers, birds, elephants, panthers, etc. Many tourists visit the place only to see one-horned rhinoceros. Actually this is the home to world's largest one-horned rhinoceros.
If you like to roam around the park in order to see the swamp, tall trees and the wildlife, you can do it either by boat or riding an elephant. Tourists as well honeymooners throng the place in the months of November to April when the park is open.
This national park in Assam enjoys a sub-tropical monsoon. There is no heavy rainfall. In winter the temperature ranges from 8° C in Winter and in Summer it ranges from 38° C.
The background of the national park at the backdrop of hills like Karbi Anglong and Mikir will allure you. The even land all over the park is densely covered by tall grass. There are a huge number of trees like elephant apple, Indian rosewood, silk cotton, etc.
You can find beautiful flowers like water lilies, lotus and water hyacinth. Often you can catch a beautiful sight of a bird flying over the river just touching the water lilies. So carry a camera and never miss a chance to click a photo.
Flora and fauna:
The wildlife attraction in Kaziranga are the one-horned rhinoceros, Indian Elephants, Indian Bison, Hog Deer, Tigers, Jungle Cats, Wild Buffalo, Pythons, Hog Badgers, etc.
For the bird lovers this park turns out to be a paradise. One can find birds like Black Kite, Palla's Fishing Eagle, White Tailed Eagle, Oriental Honey Buzzard, Ruddy Shelduck, Falcated Duck, etc. If you visit the park during winters, you can see a lot of migratory birds.

If you want to travel by train, the nearest station would be Furkating that is 75 km away from the park. Airports at Guwahati and Jorhat are the nearest airports.
