Area and Location:

Established in the year, 1985 this sanctuary spreads over an area of 185.87 sq. km. It is located in the district of Ganjam in Orissa. It is situated at a distance of around 60 km from the city of Berhampur.

Main Attractions:

Many visitors come to the Lakhari valley sanctuary to visit its chief attractions; elephants and blackbucks. This is one of the most elephant populated sanctuaries in the country. You will also get to see leopard, tiger, pea fowl, etc. and many other species.

There are a huge number of blackbucks also. Blackbuck (Antilope cervicapra), also known as Krishna Mrigam is a species of antelope which is one of the fastest of all terrestrial animals. These are found primarily in India, southern Nepal, Texas, Argentina and Pakistan.

The sanctuary is marked for the rich tropical forests, hilly terrain, deep valleys and water sources. The panoramic vista created by all these is really enchanting and you can spend quality time here in the lap of nature.

Best time to visit:

The area enjoys tropical climate. It receives a high precipitation during the monsoon. The summer temperature may range from 26°C to 33°C. January to May remains the ideal time to visit the park.
