Etymology:

The sanctuary was named after a beautiful village Nandini located at a distance of 28 km from Jammu on NHIA.

History:

In the past Jammu was surrounded by thick forests teeming with wild life. At that time, a wildlife sanctuary named after the Nandini village was established with the aim of preserving the forest. Thus the establishment of this park yielded significant results as it helped in maintaining the ecological balance of the nature.

The sanctuary was established in the year 1990 and since then it has attracted many tourists from all over the country.

The sanctuary is located 28 km away from Jammu. It covers an area of 33.24 sq km.
