Introduction about Yercaud Hill Station

Yercaud hills are situated in the Eastern Ghats on the Shevaroy hills of Tamil nadu. It gets it name from a famous lake which is in the centre of the hills. 'Yeri" in Tamil means lake and "kaadu" means forest. There still exist some of the natural forest in Yercaud hills and have still preserved their beauty and wildlife species.

Wildlife species which still exist in the forest are the foxes, deer, mongoose, kites, bison, snakes, squirrels and rabbits. It is also known as the bird's paradise as there are different species of birds coming here every year.

There is a Servarayan temple located on the heights point on Yercaud hills which is at a height of about 5326 feet above sea level. Therefore this hill is also called as the Shevaroy hills.

Yercaud hills are also famous for coffee plantations, orange groves and orchidarium which are run by the Botanical Survey of India. These hills are covered with dense forests and flower gardens.

Killiyur Fall:

Killiyur water fall is located about 3 kilometers away from Yercaud hills. There is a stunning view of the water from the Yercaud lake and of the Shevaroy hills which is falling into Killiyur falls below. This makes a fall of about 300 feet big and huge.

Yercaud Lake:

Yercaud Lake is one of the very popular places in the hills of Yercaud that has an amazing beauty as it is surrounded with trees and gardens all around. This lake has to be visited just after the monsoon gets over. Tourist s can enjoy boating in the lake. There are paddle boats also available for people who want to enjoy the calm and pleasant atmosphere of the lake.

Bear's cave:

It is located very close to the Norton Bungalow it is on the way to Servarayan temple. This is also as important as the other places in Yercaud hills. This is one of the 6th abodes of lord Subramanian.

Servarayan temple:

This temple is located on the highest point of the Servarayan hills. This temple is situated in a narrow and dark cave; it has goddess Servarayan and goddess Kaveri inside the cave
